Client protection
Client protection standards
These standards describe how HopeWell approaches suitability, conflicts, vulnerable situations, fraud risk, professional boundaries and referrals. They complement transaction-specific disclosures and the formal complaints process.
Suitability before sales pressure
A mortgage option should be considered in the context of the client's needs and circumstances, material risks, expected holding period, affordability, exit strategy and available alternatives. Compensation or a lender relationship must not substitute for suitability analysis.
Where the available information is insufficient to reach a reliable conclusion, the correct response is to identify what is missing and obtain it rather than manufacture certainty.
Clients under pressure or at heightened risk
- Urgency, arrears, enforcement, financial distress, language barriers, possible coercion, cognitive or comprehension concerns, elder financial abuse indicators and unusual third-party influence should receive additional care rather than faster sales pressure.
- Where comprehension or voluntariness is uncertain, the transaction should not be pushed through merely because a deadline exists.
- Independent legal, tax, accounting, appraisal, insolvency or other professional advice should be recommended when the issue falls outside mortgage-brokering scope or when independent advice is appropriate to protect the client.
Fraud and document integrity
HopeWell does not support altering, fabricating or concealing information to make a mortgage application appear stronger. Occupancy, income, debts, source of funds, ownership, property information and other material facts should be represented accurately.
General website forms are not intended for highly sensitive mortgage documents unless the form specifically requests them through an authorized process. Unexpected payment instructions, changes to wiring details or unusual requests for sensitive information should be independently verified through a trusted contact channel.
External professional referrals
A referral to a lawyer, accountant, appraiser, realtor, insurer or other professional does not make that professional an employee or agent of HopeWell and is not a guarantee of the professional's work. Clients remain free to choose their own independent professional, subject to any transaction-specific lender or legal requirements.
Any compensation, relationship or conflict connected with a referral or mortgage transaction must be handled through the disclosure requirements applicable to the transaction.
Escalation and complaints
A client can ask for clarification, raise a concern, or request Principal Broker review. Human escalation is a protection mechanism, not a failure of the process, especially where policy is ambiguous, a regulated recommendation is required, or the issue belongs to another profession.
Official sources
These external sources are used as primary evidence for the standards described on this page. HopeWell re-checks governed sources on an internal schedule.
